After a last inspection of the Nausikaa III, with all equipment accounted for, a certified check changed hands, and Boris and Shirley were now the owners of the 57-foot ocean-going ship of their dreams.
One problem: they had no idea how to sail it. A first cruise around the bay under motor power came to an inauspicious end as Boris repeatedly tried to pull up to the dock and missed--while a crowd of spectators enjoyed a hearty laugh.
The next day, Boris went out with Shirley's brother Jim, and they were proud of themselves when they succeeded in hoisting the jib. But something wasn't quite right. Oh yes, it was upside down.
And these people were planning to sail to Australia? Talk about an impossible dream!
